Paul is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the Catholic University of America. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. After completing law school, he worked for a year in the defense industry as a contracts administrator for the Westinghouse Defense Company, now the Northrop Grumman Corporation. Paul lives and works in Carroll County, and over the years he concentrated his practice in the areas of Family law, Mediation, Criminal law, DUI/DWI defense, Wills and Estate Planning, and Estate Administration.
Cynthia Hatten Unglesbee is a lifelong resident of Carroll County, having graduated from North Carroll High School. She received her Bachelor's of Arts degree from Hood College in 1995, and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1999. In 2000, Cindy held the position of Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Raymond E. Beck, Sr. of the Circuit Court for Carroll County, where she gained valuable experience in the workings of the Court system, performed legal research, and assisted in the writing of judicial opinions. Her skills are much sought after and she has extensive experience in litigating divorce and child custody matters.
Paul and Cindy have been named Super lawyers by Baltimore Magazine for several consecutive years. The Super Lawyer designation recognizes a high degree of peer review and professional achievement. It is only awarded to five percent of Maryland lawyers.
Paul also has an extensive Family Law Mediation practice. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution opportunity to resolve issues concerning children, support and property, outside the courtroom. By utilizing mediation, parties can take some control over the unique and difficult decisions to be made in divorce or custody matters. Mediation also allows parties avoid the financial and emotional burdens of litigation. Paul currently conducts over 150 family law mediations per year, with most reaching an out-of-court resolution. In addition to conducting private mediations, Paul has been appointed by the Circuit Court for Carroll County to serve as a Family Law Mediator for over 20 years. Court appointed mediators must undergo extensive training and continuing legal education. In divorce cases and other family law matters, the parties, through mediation, can almost always come up with a better resolution than will result from litigation. Mediation is a wonderful way of resolving important issues, rather than having a judge or magistrate dictate a resolution to you.
Cindy also serves the Court as a Pretrial Officer in Family Law cases, a position that requires extensive knowledge of the law and of likely outcome in litigated cases. As a member of the Character Committee of the State Board of Law Examiners, Cindy investigates and evaluates the character and fitness of those seeking to enter the legal profession.
